Started in August of 1929 and completed in April of 1931, Lake of the Ozarks, located in west central Missouri, covers 4 counties(Camden,Morgan,Miller,Benton), has nearly 60,000 surface acres, and 1300 miles of shoreline.Besides some great black bass fishing, Lake of the Ozarks also has large populations of catfish, crappie, white bass, hybrid bass or "Wipers", paddlefish, sunfish, gar, and carp. Walleye have been stocked in Lake of the Ozarks since 1991.Lake of the Ozarks claims 5 state records including: Hybrid bass (20-8), Paddlefish or "Spoonbill" (134-12), Muskie (41-2), Smallmouth Buffalo (36-12), and Freshwater Drum (40-8).
I live on LOZ(lake of the ozarks) and do quite a bit of fishing when I get the chance. The lake is filling back up to normal pool right now it only likes about 18" being full.660 ft. elevation is full.
The blue cats were biting pretty good before all the rain but I haven't been out in a few days.I'll try to post some fishing reports when it quits raining.

You should check it out sometime. The lower end is packed with tourists, cigar boats, yachts and the like but it gets peaceful for the most part in the middle by me.The upper half is mostly fishermen. When it was built it was the largest in the U.S.It has over 1300 miles of shoreline that is more than the coast of California.

I believe it is still the biggest with the most shoreline. It's also the most developed lake in the nation as well. Tourist mecca or fisherman hell depending on how you look at it...lol Wish dad had bought some land down there like he started to many years ago, I still remember when it was a 'normal lake' with little development. Now it's wall to wall condos and resorts. It's still ranked one of the best cat lakes in the nation with good potential to give up the next world record channel and possibly blue cat.
I remember the strip as well where HWY 5 hit 54 comeing into camdenton. Few little stores, couple of resteraunts and you could ride your bike down the HWY of an evening without worrying about getting run over. They rolled up the sidewalks about 8 pm. Now days i don't think traffic ever lets up(lord help you down there on holiday weekends cause no one else will) and seems like the lights never go out. And what used to be several small burgs(camdenton, osage beach ect) is now about all one continuous strip. I stay away from the lower end when ever i can any more.

Yea,I can remember even in the late 70s there still wasn't a whole lot goin on.I can remember gettin a few buddies and a couple girls and going down around Fort Osage to ride the go-carts and such. There wasn't much there.I used to like going to the dam and ridind the paddle wheel boat even took a plane ride or two down there.I go over there now sometimes to the Super Center and go grocery shoppin then get the heck outta dodge.

Going to the Lake of the Ozarks, with a buddy of mine this weekend. Hope to catch a lot of fish. His Grandma owns a little cabin down there so we don't have to worry about Hotel fees. But if anybody want's to visit us or meet us somewhere to fish, i'll pm you my cell number, just pm me for it. Hope we will have fun.

I imagine the boats will start to get thick this weekend, but I reckon it depends on the weather.I will probably have alot of neighbors coming in for the weekend. Most of the people around me are only here for Memorial Weekend,4th of July, and Labor Day.The rest of the time it's pretty quiet around me.
