Fishing Tip: Under very cloudy skies, bass can sometimes become active. Bass are light sensitive. With cloud cover, largemouth will be willing to cruise around and hit any prey in the vicinity. In these conditions, top water fishing may be a good technique to utilize.
Arkansas River Levels: According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as of Wednesday the Arkansas River stages are:
21.89 feet at Dardanelle (flood stage 32 feet)
24.66 feet at Morrilton (flood stage 30 feet)
11.40 feet at Little Rock (flood stage 23 feet)
35.51 feet at Pine Bluff (flood stage 42 feet)
28.56 feet at Pendleton (flood stage 31 feet)
White River Levels: According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, as of Wednesday the White River stages are:
7.57 feet at Georgetown (flood stage 21 feet)
20.48 feet at Augusta (flood stage 26 feet)

Statewide Family and Community Fishing Report: Catfish were stocked into most program ponds last week, and they are biting very well. Nightcrawlers and chicken livers have been the best baits so far, but stinkbait and minnows should also produce fish. Bream fishing has only been fair on crickets and worms, but should pick up within the next week as the full moon approaches and fish get ready to bed up. CENTRAL ARKANSAS
Lake Conway: Bates Field and Stream (501-470-1846) said the water is clear and at normal level. Bream are moving in close to the bank. Crappie are around the cypress trees about 3 to 3.5 feet deep and biting on minnows. Bass are biting well on yellow Horny Toad frogs, buzzbaits and dark plastic worms. Catfish are biting on trotlines baited with minnows and perch.
Little Red River: Lindsey's Resort (501-302-3139) said the water is clear and cold. Bait fishers are having luck on chartreuse Power Eggs, wax worms with marshmallows and artificial lures. The Thomas Buoyant spoon and 2 inch Rapalas are working the best. Fly-fishermen are having luck with midges in zebra, red, black, and tan. Sow bugs and Red Asses are producing fish as well.
Jed Hollan at the Little Red Fly Shop said the water is clear with a few spots of siltation from bank erosion. Aquatic insect hatches continue to be sparse. Caddis hatches are over, blue-winged olive mayflies have yet to begin in earnest but should hatch sometime in July lasting until October. Sulphur mayflies and pale morning dun mayflies are coming off most days, and you always have the daily midge hatch. Dry flies working the best include midges (size 22 in cream or black), Adams (size 16), PMDs (sizes 16-18) and sulphurs (sizes 16-18). Sub-surface flies are working the best and include any soft hackle emerger. The best sub-surface patterns are sow bugs (mostly tan or light gray in sizes 14-16), flashback pheasant tails (sizes 14-16), zebra midges (sizes 16-22), electric princes (sizes 14-16), San Juan worms (size 18) and olive woolly buggers (sizes 10-12).
Greers Ferry: As of Tuesday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake's elevation at 461.50 feet MSL
Tommy Cauley of Fish Finder Guide Service said crappie are biting pretty well in the creek channels, in river bends and over brush piles and pole timber in 15 to 20 feet of water on jigs tipped with minnows. Bream are bedding in the shallows and can be caught with a bream killer fly or on crickets and nightcrawlers. Bass fishing is good. Many largemouths are up shallow in the grass chasing bream and out on the drops and bends. The largemouths can be caught with top-water lures, Right Bite Shaky Hookers and Rite Bite frogs, Kentucky bass and largemouths can be caught on the drops with Carolina-rigged and Texas-rigged worms and the smallmouth can be caught with Carolina-rigged Rite Bite Cinkos. Catfishing is good on floating trot lines and jugs as well as traditional trot lines baited with bream. White bass and hybrids are coming up all over the lake during low-light hours and cloudy days. When they are breaking, they can be caught on Super Spook Jrs. If they are not breaking, try swimming a grub over the tops of the areas they were schooling in. On sunny days, a jigging spoon in 43 feet of water or a buckshot inline spinner will produce. Walleye are still scattered from 8-38 feet of water. Some can be caught dragging a crawler harness.
Shiloh Marina (501-825-6237) said the water is a little dingy and at normal level. Bream are biting close to the bank. Black bass are biting at 15 to 20 feet. Whites and hybrids are biting on spoons or top water bait on top or deep. Catfishing is fair. Walleye are biting well on minnows and nightcrawlers.
Harris Brake Lake: Coffee Creek Landing (501-889-2745) said the water is clear and at normal level. All species are biting fair. Bream are biting on worms and crickets. Catfish are biting on blood bait and chicken liver.
Lake Beaverfork: The City of Conway Parks and Recreation Department said the water is a little choppy and murky. Crappie are being caught on jigs. Catfish are biting on chicken liver.
Lake Overcup: Lakeview Landing (501-354-1470) said the water is clear and at normal level. Bream are biting well on crickets and red worms. Crappie fishing is also good on minnows and low rock hopper jigs in black and blue.

Crappie are biting well in 12 feet of water, about 6 feet deep on pink, white, and chartreuse or salt and pepper jigs. Minnows are also producing crappie. Bass fishing is fair on top-water baits in the morning. Bubble gum fluke and plastic worms are working well in the afternoons. Catfishing is slow, but a few are biting on nightcrawlers and cut bait.

Crappie are biting on blue and white or red and chartreuse jigs, as well as small minnows. Bass are biting on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Catfish are biting on chicken liver and nightcrawlers.
Little Maumelle River: River Valley Bait (501-868-3279) River Valley Bait (501-868-3279) said the water is muddy and down about 2 feet. A few bream are being caught with worms and crickets. Bass are biting well on assorted spinnerbaits. Catfishing is fair on the bottom with anything.
Lake Maumelle: Jolly Roger's Marina said fishing is good. Black bass are biting very well early, late and at night around 4 to 8 feet of water with spinnerbaits and top-water lures. During the day, they are biting in 10 to 14 feet of water on Carolina rigs and jig-and-pig combos. Bream fishing is excellent on crickets in 8 to 17 feet of water. White bass are biting well on CC spoons and Roostertails. Crappie fishing is fair on minnows about 10 to 18 feet deep.

Sunset Lake: Turbyfill's Outdoor Sports (501-315-3061) said the water is clear and at normal level. Bream are biting well on crickets. Catfish are biting well on stink bait. Crappie and bass are both slow.

Arkansas River at Morrilton: Charley's Hidden Harbor in Oppelo said the flow from Lock 9 is 125.500 cubic feet per second with a headwater of 284.41 and a tailwater of 281.38. Look for this to stay at least to the middle of next week. The backside of jetties where water has come over the tops is a good place to wet your lines. Bream fishing is good on crickets. Bass are lying up in overhangs during the heat of the day. They are biting on Horny Toad frogs around flood grass lines. Catfish are biting well on the backside of the jetty and on the flooded back water on worms. Whites and stripers are biting well below dams 10 and 9.
Lake Valencia in Maumelle: Hatchet Jacks Sport Shop said catfish are biting well on nightcrawlers.
Terry Lock and Dam: McSwain Sports Center (501-945-2471) said the river is very high and dangerous at this time.
