beaver lake in nw arkansas is where Ray scott and the b.a.s.s. got its start. it a large resivor on the white river the majority of the fisherman on beaver are bass fisherman and stripper fisherman. there are good numbers of blue catfish in the lake but not to many folks fish for them. shad are easy to catch in the winter and virtually impossiable to catch frrom march to october. the lake is divide into 3 sections . the upper section known locally as up in the river is the section from seqouhaia lake to horseshoe bend. this water is a little off color ( slightly stained) . it can aalso get very muddy dureing spring rains. good crappie fishing occurs in the upper part of beaver . as well as excellent stripper fishing every spring. catfishing for blue cats is good to very good in the upper end. the middle section of the lake is from horseshoe bend marina to the coppermine area. good bass fish in this part of the lake . with bass being caught in the transition zones where chunk rock changes to pea gravel. small mouth fishing gets good around coppermine. the middle section of the lake has 7 major coves or hollows with an over abundance of standing timber . all major hollows have good fishing . the 3 section of the lake is frrom rocky branch marina to the dam . locally we call this the clear water . and clear it is. when fisshing this area for bass down size baits and use small diamiter line. small mouth fishing is very good in this section . the one fish i catch in this section consistantly is the oppolusa flathead . i try to trot line the clear water atleast once a year for a week or so . theses flatheads are not big 5-7 # but they sure aare tasty. as with most of the lakes in our part of the world weekend traffic is crazy . best fishing days are week days early before teenagers wake up and drag the ski boats out.
