when i fish for channel cats i have a pair of shakespear uglystik catfish rods with ambassador 6000 reels on them. i have tried to use them in the bait clicker mode but inveriably i set the hook before i lock the reel in gear. now i have fished avidly for 40 plus years and the feeling that i get when i try to set the hook on a fish without the reel ingaged is almost indiscribable. Almost. i think its a feeling of holy cow what are you doing mixed with overwhealming stupidity. i have almost gave up on the bait clicker mode but on the bright side maybe the line out alarm feature will boost resale value.

I use my clicker as well as bells. Course I only fish at night. One of my shakespears has a very faint clicker. and has no holding power. So I havta set the clicker an loosen the drag quite a bit. but man does it crank smooth.

I like my Ambassador 6500 baitclicker because it engages when you turn the handle. It's easier for me to remember to engage then my Okuma because on it I have to flip the lever. I also use bells on my poles.

To funny. I usually fish at night so have gotten in the habit of using them but sometimes I find myself even using them in the daytime.

You guys need something like Coonx had at the get together. Had one of them high falutin european carp rod holders. Would hold two rods, had a wheel the line ran across and a weighted pulley. Has a remote alarm to. Fish judt tugs on the line a lil bit and the remote alarm starts hollering...lol Looked like he was setting up camp on the river bank and it was only his fishing gear. I carry less to go camping!

That's alright Wolfman but I'll stick with bells. They're light weight and affordable ;D
