what size hook do you use for channel cats on rod and reel. i use a size 4 treble with punch bait. i like a size 2/0 ssnelled egale claw bait holder for cut bait or liver. i have not tried a circle hook for any type of fish .

I use kahle(sp?) somewhere around a 4/0 the most for channels.I tried circle a little last year but couldn't get used to not setting the hook.I bought a couple packs of circles to try this year but haven't used them yet.I have trouble finding 6/0 and 8/0 hooks around here for some reason.

I know this was about size, but since ya brought up circles I thawt I'd throw this in. Circles DO work just like they are supposed to. I had to hook live bait a little more shallow than I'm used to, and did throw a perch off on a birds nest because of it, but I had to do it to give the point clearance to hook. Fish hit; rod dips; remove from holder; start reeling and the fight's on! That was 5 inch perch; 7/0 circle; 7lb. blue.
