i used my catfish rods to fish with from the pier and the surf in florida. they did a good job. i took to big surf rods with me as well but the fish were up on the beach every where i fished the surf. i am pretty happy with my ugly stiks and my 6000's. i would however like to get my 6000's converted from bushings to bearings. i really dont know if its very economical to ddo the conversionss or just find a better reel that already has the bearings. any input on this subject would be appreciated.

Well if you use the stainless bearings and not ceramic it probably wouldn't cost that much to convert them to the 6500s.You can tap a bearing into the sideplate instead of replacing it with a new one.Take out the bushing and replace it with a sleeve(#22001 i think if I remember right) then change out the spool bearings and you will have a 6500.I think the newer 6000s already have the crank bearing in em so just change the spool bushing to bearings(4mmX 10mmX 4 mm). I've never done it but I read up on it somewhere once and they said it was pretty simple.

thanks im gonna research the part numbers for conversion tomorrow night . i hhave a local bait shop guy that collects old ambassadors i may stop and see if he has what i need in stock. i would get him to do it for me but he guides and fishes tournaments for bass and it would be forever before i got my reels back.

Buy new ones. Set the old ones back for spares, trade em in or sell em for cash to buy the new ones. 1. You'll never be satisfied with ones you convert when you think about it. Especialy if you have problems while fishing or lose a big fish because of the reel. 2. It will be cheaper in the long run to buy new ones if you screw the old ones up.
