No,this isn't about Jim. ;D What's everyone's favorite sinker?I mostly use egg sinkers with a splitshot for a stopper underneath.I was thinking of trying the no-roll out a little more this year,I've only used them a few times.I was wondering what everyone else prefers.

i use sliding eggs 1/2 to 1 ounce. Also use them whatever they are the look like snaggin weights, only they're one to two ounces. I too, use split shot for stoppers. Have seen everything from sticks to cigarette butts used. Bound to be sumpthin better than split shot. They tend to slide down when ya dont want em to. Have read bout usin beads. Cant see the improvment over on em tho. Thinkin sumpthin spongey like cig butts with a half hitch to hold em in would be bout the best. And with less knot tension, too.

Yea,the split shot don't stay put very well but I can't see how the beads would be better.I've never tried the beads though.

Split shot for low current conditions and small cats. For larger cats, heavy current or drifting i use standard Bank sinkers, usualy in a three way rig.
Beads work great for bobbers ect. They work pretty good on sinkers as well to a certain point. You get less line wear and tear useing a bead rather then a splitshot. One less thing to go wrong and you can adjust a bead eaiser then a splitshot.
Have'nt tried no rolls. I think they would work well in a tailrace or in real heavy current. But for a standard drift rig, a bottombumper or just tossing it out and letting it set i see no advantage and some disadvantages.
Im not big on haveing a slip sinker slideing up and down my line either. Thats why i use a three way or split shot. The inside of a slip sinkers is'nt baby bottom smooth and you know you get some line abrasion with them. Get a real pizzed off cat on the end and that sinker acts like a friggin yo-yo. Just one more thing to go wrong.
One sinker i intend to try is the snagless sinkers like walleye fishermen use or bottom bouncers. I think i can make my own with some coat hangers and slip sinkers...lol That or some surgical tubeing and lead pellets.
