Ive noticed over the years as an instructor the 'intelligance' level of our kids seems to be falling off. Who's teaching our kids in school and WHAT are they teaching them?
I went into McDonalds last night and grabbed some stuff off the dollar menu bec ause we did'nt want to cook after comeing back from the lake. Came to 9.40 I gave the lil gal a 20 and told her i had the .40 She did'nt hear me i guess as i was digging it out and rang up $20 to let the 'Machine' tell her how much change to give. I told her again i had the .40 as i dug it out. She got this real confused look on her face and paused, looked at the register as she stopped digging change out, looked back at me and said "i hate it when people do that, it confuses me."
She stood there for several seconds with this very perplexed look on her face stareing at the register and me in turns with a 10 in her hand. I told her 'you owe me another dollar'. To which she dropped the change and aded a dollar to the 10. Then as i stood there for 5 minutes watching them fill numerous drivethrough oders as fast as they could while waiting for mine she kept looking at me then the register as if still perplexed. Don't they teach kids to count in school anymore without the use of a calculator? Im hearing to many stories like this now days.

I see it happen all the time.I went to a McDonalds recently and their computers were down or something and the kids were having to use a pencil and paper to figure change. It would have been funny to watch except it was taking them so long and the lines kept getting bigger and bigger.

Whats sick is it's just basic math they were supposed to of learned in their first three grades. That and their the ones we will be turning the country over to to run in a few more years. God help us.

Yeah, it's aggravating. When I was just getting out of high school, calculators were just coming out, and you couldn't use them in school. Now they are required. I don't have a problem with kids using them, but teach them the old-fashioned way first.

Calculators are alowed even on tests now. Don't make sense. Whats really sick is i seen a news deal awhile back where a lot of schools are starting to teach a new math. Where kids can guess and only have to get CLOSE to the right number. They don't have to be able to add and subtract accurately. Now THATS a bunch of bull. Ive seen readuing and comprehension levels of normal words go down hill drasticly in the last 10 years. I get 16 year olds that can't write, read or understand common words as well as an 11 year old could 10 years ago.

I work in one of them fast food places. And no, they cant figger on their own. And it aint their fault. Its societies. One time several years ago, I was stuck, I mean assigned a junior fire dept group. Had bout 8 kids rangin from 12-17. I had em do the Reading Circle thing so I knew they understodd what we's all talkin bout. I had two kids that could read more the three letter words. I went to the local school an went off. What good it did. We'er gettin kids in high school that "I cant spel mah own name, but ah kin plays futbal". And that aint no Bull. The schools are bein paid good money by the govment for passing kids. No matter what they know. Its like they're "dumbing down" the kids. Lets dont teach em to think for themselves. Like Wolf said, "close is good enuff". Control of the masses will be easier when no one knows whats going on.
