Here's a lil tip that might help you out, even save your dog sometime.
If your mutt in his day to day routine gets ahold of something that don't set well on his stomach remember Pepto Bismol(or Kaopectate).
If he's pukeing and/or running at the other end it could well save his life. Figure 1/2 a tbl spoon per 20 lbs dosage every 4-6 hours.
Metamucsal(sp) to coat the stomach as well or Diawin Endosorb tablets. This takes care of food poisoning and should help with other types like anti freeze. At least untill you can see the Vet.
Id of thought of it i might of saved my red male stray, d@mnit!
Something you need to do as well if their sick and loseing fluids or you can even do to help em out in this heat is Re-Sorb like whats used on cattle for when they have the scours.
It helps rehydrate their system with electrolytes.
It's cheap. Mix 1 packet to one gallon of water for sick animals. You could probably cut it in half to just give em a boost during hot weather.
A Point here is if their not drinking at all, especialy if you can pinch a hunk of skin behind the shoulder blades and it don't go right back down is, Get them to the VET right then.
Minor note: They don't like the taste of Pepto Bismol. Useing a syringe and placeing the tip between the teeth and squirting it in in short bursts while keeping their mouth closed is the easiest and best way of doseing them. While sitting on them! They really don't like the taste...lol
The tablets some will eat like candy and some want to spit out. Break em up and feed em in bread then.
The re-absorb can be frozen in ice cubes and given to them to just lick if their not drinking or your just giveing them a boost. They seem to like it's taste.
This all take s a couple of days to do any good but it does bring em back. Just wish id of known this last fri.
Don't forget your dogs in this heat, especialy heavy furred or more northern types like huskies. They suffer. A good douseing with the water hose helps...lol
