Sittin here at my desk, in th house, IN TOWN, a tom turkey with a 10" beard just strolled within 20 feet ! Strolled right across the yard and inta th neighbors calf pen. Haven't seen a turkey here in 25 years or more. Handsome devil. Wish Hoot coulda seen it.

They're starting to get pretty thick everywhere. We see quite a few over this way although my dog keeps em out of the yard. Before I brought my dog up here, when we used to just come up for weekends they would be all over the yard in the early mornings. It's still not uncommon to see 10-12 deer wandering around out there.I just wish the dog could scare off a few of the squirrels,at any given time there is about 2 dozen in the yard and I'm afraid they will chew up something they shouldn't and then there will be a war....

One word whiskers, pellet rifle. Wait, thats two words aint it? Pelletrifle...pellet rifle? Yep two words, pellet rifle. Pick one up at wal-mart for about 40 bucks that will reach about 8-900 fps(almost the velocity of a .22) and use those nice lil pointed hunting pellets. Put a decent scope on it, not one of them crummy lil 22 scopes and you'll have them tree rats running for their lives from your pellet rifle. Pelletrifle...pellet rifle? Yep Two words.

I've got a couple good pellet rifles. It don't take long to train them what they are though.I can step out the door with a pellet rifle and they get pretty scarce quick.I like to surprise them once in a while with a good gas powered pellet pistol. If they're close enough I can kill one with the pistol and they never see it coming.lol

Learn to be sneakier. Walk with that pellet rifle down by your leg and they can't see it. Works on the dogs n squirrels around here...lol or else get you a slingshot, sling shot? Yep that ones one word, slingshot...lol Or else get you a Mean Doggie to keep the squirrels run off.

Now I would never advocate shooting a wild turkey out of season, not at the prices the fines run.But you have to admit a wild turkey breast would taste pretty good.I like the butterballs too and fix one every month or two, but it just aint the same....

I been thinking of doing a breast(turkey of course) on the grill lately. Seen a nice recepie on Bar-B-Q University the other day. Had to do with hickory wood and maple syrup as a baste. Looked and sounded yummy...lol
would'nt mind haveing some squirrels or better yet young whistle pig to grill.

That grilled turkey breast does sound good done that way.I haven't found many ways I don't like turkey breast though.
There is alot of whistle pigs or woodchucks up this way this year.I see them all the time.
