Found this frigging huge monstrosity in my front yard awhile ago. Thing would choke a 5lb channel cat! Thing is 2 1/2 inchs long and right at 1 inch wide. It BITES to! Several times!...lol It's a Female Bigant Root Borer. Genus: Prionus Family: Cerambycidae Order: Coleoptera Class: Insecta (Hexapoda) Photo by Jerry A Payne www.invasive.org/browse/subimages.cfm?sub=2135

Thing is i've lived here in MO for 45 years and can't remember ever seeing one of these things. After looking at the pics i think ive seen a male or two(smaller) but never a female. I have seen their larve in old rotten logs now that i've seen the pics. Would make som cat bait maybe...lol I don't think theres a cat mean enough to eat an adult female though...lol

I think that looks like what I've seen.I see another BIG beetle of some kind outside once in a while, must be 3 or 4 inches long.Don't know what it is I've never seen them before until the last 2 years. Not sure if it's a beetle but something in that line.

I thought this might of been a new invasive species. Guess it is an invasive species of some type but i guess it's been around awhile. Eats the roots and kills the tree's. Guess ill go turn it loose. Jul;y and august is when your supposed to see em the most or so they say.
