Well deer season is about here and this will be one of the first opening mornings I have missed in many years.I'm just not up to the 100 mile trip to my deer camp where I've hunted the last 25 years or so.I've always hunted on the family farm in Wright county on the Gasconade river.I may try to hunt a little here by me but I doubt it really.I don't know a good place to hunt up here where there won't be umpteen million people trying to hunt the same ground.I have seen several nice bucks here,2 of them being monsters but they have been on private property(not mine). I wish everyone going good luck and a safe return from the woods.

I know just what you mean. Our elk camp is 150 miles away and we set up early so its 2 150 mile trips. This is the first year I've hunted rifle in a long time. Hunted 3 days and didn't see anything. Our camp has been going for 35 years now and is more like a Hylton hotel than a tent! It takes 12 guys a full day to set it up and the same for tear down. Its really cozy tho. Good luck with the hunting!

Yea,deer camp aint exactly roughing it down home at the farm either.I've got a camper down there in the woods that's set up all the time.I have a generator,tv,microwave and all the "necessities" lol. Plus if the weather gets too cold The farmhouse is on top of the hill.I moved out of it about 10 years ago but I still have a woodstove and bed there but it don't feel like deer camp unless I'm down in the woods.

Been a slow season so far, lots of acorns and few deer. Hunters to i think. I used to get off work and drive 75 miles one way to hunt my favorite spot...everyday. lol Need to show me the Farm whiskers, it's just a hop skip and a jump to wright county for me...lol I passed on a decent 6 or a small 8 sat morning. Rack was decent but was'nt big enough to interest me that early in season. Figured clare n amber would have a chance at him if i passed on him. passed on a doe and yearling later that morning as i thought a buck might be following them. Passed on a big doe in front of the house wed, shot was only a 90% or so, to many limbs. It's getting into meat hunting time now. Rifles almost over and ML will open Fri. nything goes then. Ive been draging a 9 year old anchor around with me this year as well so thats seriously limited my opportunities, stand situations ect. Going to pawn her off on momma this weekend...if im lucky. Funny thing is the one buck is all ive seen. For everybody claiming to be seeing them in full rut and chaseing i have'nt seen a single chase, heard a single grunt or grunted a single buck in. For that matter ive yet to see a single rub or scrape and i usualy see a couple of dozen around here. Localy their still recovering from my baiting neighbors but there should of been some move in. I did see 3 does, 5 yearlings and a small buck and doe during the urban season. Just have'nt seen any big boys yet or their sign. Odd.
