i started off tent camping.sleeping on the ground has always crippled me even when i was young. my wife and i bought a used class c motor home . i liked it but the big draw back was sttranded after you set up . i am now back to tent camping with cots . big cots . i would have to say the comfort level is still not as nice as an rv but it is a lot better than sleeping on the ground. this year is probably our last big vacation since i hate oil companys and gas prices . so next year we will probably spend our vacation dollars closer to home." pomme or truman". i am thinking of one of 3 things. #1 wright now is building my own tear drop this winter.#2 is a bumper pull camper nothing large maybe a 14 to 16 ft. #3 is a pop up . i kind of like pop ups that other people have but im affraid if i owned one i may not like it after a time. for the price we are going to spend next week going to the beach and surf fishing we could have bought a pretty nice travel trailer. especially when you factor in what we will spend for gas . give me your opinions if you have one .

I started in tents also.Still have a couple I may have to use, with fuel prices.I have an old Class C also but I didn't even license it this year, didn't plan on taking it anywhere. It is nice to have when I go places but with insurance and now fuel it aint hardly worth it.I was talking to my sister the other day about trading it back to her for the 24' travel trailer again.I used to have the trailer but swapped it to her for the M/H.

I'm still using tents. Sometimes it's in the bed of my truck, or in it. But most of the time it's a tent. When it's good weather, then i'll just sleep under the stars.

Slabmaster, don't overlook the lil out of the way camp grounds on the rivers and the conservation department areas. Lot of those have primitive camp sites and some are set up with electric. No big crowds out of turkey or deer season. Trails to hike, water to swim and fish in and usualy a lot of privacy, peace and quiet. I know one or two decent ones...lol The MTNF is'nt bad either.

i'm with you wolfman . i take my wife and kid camping and canoeing a couple of times a summer on the big sugar creek not far from where i live . there are 2 or 3 privately owned campgrounds along the creek that are great people who want to avoid the crowds.

I've been promiseing the kid a camping trip for a couple of years now. But with dads condition i can't hardly get away by myself let alone take the family for a weekend. One of these days i got to get her out for a camping trip. Like to find me a decent flat sterned canoe at a good price i can put my 3 horse on and carry on top of the Mini bronco. Make for some float trips and camping boating...lol
Id love to have one of the smaller pull type campers. Don't need a fifth wheel the place i go it would be a pain. One of the lil 19 or 20 foot bumper types would be pleanty. Some place to sleep bug and booger free and get out of the rain and cold. Most of MY camping is usualy in Oct, Nov late apr and early may. Deer and turkey seasons you know. What something insulated though i have tent camped then. Like a hard side camper for security for the girls and gear. Especialy with the growth of the bear population in MO as i usualy camp out in the toolies. Not big on state parks and popular camp grounds. To many people...lol

I have a 32 ft. Fifth Wheel with two slides and go from Branson Mo. to the Gulf of Mexico, I have a 19 ft. Carolina Skiff Center Console boat that we go out into the gulf 3 to 4 miles when water is pretty calm, fish the close in rigs. Also fish the inland lakes and Bayou's (brackish water thats where salt and fresh water meet) Get into some interesting fishing
