On May 19, 2007 two bass fishermen competing in a Berry’s Boat Dock tournament at Lake Oconee in Georgia were shot at and one was hit. He was not hurt badly and the shooter was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a felony. According to official reports an 86 year old man fired three shots at a the two bass fishermen for getting too close to his lines. Reports do not say if they were trotlines or if he was fishing with a rod and reel. The local sheriff says the shooter has been putting out lines in the area for decades. I figure most people have thought about it when someone comes zipping by too close for comfort but you don't hear of it happening very often.

Reckon it would depend a lot on what was meant by getting too close! Mebbe he'd already warned them......mebbe not! It'd appear they's talkin bout trot, jug, or set lines of some kind. Whatever th case, we need that ol' boy fer a member on here!

I'd say he warned em' alright, fired 3 shots and only shot one person.First 2 shots was a pretty good warning.I'd say there was more to the story than what was mentioned.I noticed they wasn't charging him with attempted murder, just aggravated assault. They must have figured there was some merit in what he done...

Should of just put one round through the motor and said it was an accidental discharge.
