the state fish of oklahoma . only we call tyhem sand bass. have you ever been on the river when they were schooling " busting shad on top of the water" and every one had a fish on . The next thing you know the actions gone and it seems like you cant buy a fish on your scared up crank bait . A bait which only minutes ago seemed like the wonder bait of the century. well if you been there try this. keep a rod handy that has a silver spoon type lure on it. when the whites attack a school of shad and drive them to the top many shad are being killed but not eaten. just cast your spoon/slab type bait out to where the fish were the last time you saw them surface. let the lure sink to the bottom , take up slack line, bonce lure off the bottom with a few quick jerks and hold on tight cause your bout to do battle.

When their busting the surface try a heddon river runt, one of the small ones. Be carefull cause when they hit it they hit so hard they sometimes toss it right back at you...lol It's not uncommon to catch two whites at the same time on one.
I usualy keep a 3/4 or 1oz silver spoon on another rod and depending on the depth i may put a 1/4 or 1/2oz split shot about a foot above the spoon. makes for a nice wobbly action as it sinks faster in deep water.
Was absolutely slaughtering the whites on stockton year before last when we could find em. They would bust the surface for about three mornings straight then you could'nt find em on the fourth day. Next three days they would be up again. Was working schools sometimes 300 yards long and 200 yards wide. Looked like a big hail storm on the lake. Lot of big sows caught in the 2-3lb range or larger. Whole lot of 1 to 1 1/2lb fish throwed back...lol Would start right about the time it started to get light and lasted untill about an hour after sunup or so.
