I did have some fun Donkey. A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of Real Estate for sure. .........now, if I could just get rid of the 14 hour drive............

Hate to hear the fish weren't biting good Bob,but at least you got to get out and try.Every time I plan on getting out something comes up it seems like.I did finish up with the babysitting that I had been doing for a month and a half but I didn't get to fish this weekend.I had an uncle pass away that I was pretty close to,so I was preoccupied with services and such.Got back up here home yesterday and my Mom called and told me a good friend of mine from down there got killed in a wreck,a semi ran a stop sign and plowed his Jeep.I didn't see him this weekend while I was down there,I was busy with family and figured I would see him next trip down,it just goes to show you never know what's in store. It looks like this year may end the same way it started.
It looks like you get a little better milage with your buggy/mercury 40h.p. than I get with my 45h.p.buggy/mercury. I can get close to that milage if I stay around 3000 rpm avg but when I get up around the 4000 mark my milage gets cut in half.I still think I have the wrong prop on mine,my brother-in-law tried a couple different props when he had it but that don't mean he tried the right one.Only problem is those props cost alot to just try and experiment to find the right one.I may take it in to the shop next spring and let them have a shot at it.

Whiskers Sorry to hear about your uncle and good friend. The problems never end. I just had a nieces husband roll his truck and get pinned under it for 2 hours. Things happen.
I think I'm runnin a 11 pitch prop. Boat shops where I've dealt will let you try several props till you get the correct one. I went thru 3 to settle on the one I bought. I can trim my motor up and get 50-100 more RPMs out of it. Thats not much difference in speed but makes for a drier ride if its choppy

Well I still haven't had a chance to fish, seems the elements just aren't in favor of it right now.On the day of my friends funeral,my couisin's husband got killed(he was 30 y.o.).Then my dad fell off the roof of his garage, messed up his arm, landed on his head and got a concussion(sp). He came to just as mom was calling 911 and he made her hang up,which resulted in the deputy coming out for a 911 hang up.LoL Dad told them he wasn't letting anyone take him anywhere and he ran the law off his place. He is somewhat stubborn about going to doctors and such.Mom finally got him to go to the emergency room and he is back home now and doing ok,although he isn't going to be using his arm anytime soon. After everything settled down I decided I could sneak off and fish,I got to my boat and discovered it was sitting in mud where they drooped the lake some more while I had been gone.So I spent yesterday with a couple 4x4 poles digging under the boat and pushing out to water again. We had to move it about 40 feet to get it back in the water and that took a while moving it about 6 inches at a time.I've got it floating in water now but I'm too sore to go out and fish.I think I will kick back and rest for a day or two it has been pretty busy here the last couple weeks.

Whiskers I think you need some major stress relief after a day off. Ever tried fishing? I hear it can be relaxing!

That's what I hear,I can't remember first hand though.LoL Went down last night about dark and was going to fish a little bit.Got to where my boat was supposed to be and discovered the wind had pushed it about 100 yds out into the lake.It was dragging the anchor and a concrete block with it.I had left the top up on the boat and it was working like a parasail.I had been down and checked it a couple hours earlier and it was fine.Luckily I had let out enough anchor rope that the anchor was still dragging but the concrete block it had drug off the bank was just dangling straight down in the water. My son swam out and got it and brought it back in.After that we came back to the house and he sat by the heat for a while. All in all,I can't help but laugh about it a little. It seems that something is telling me not to go fishing right now,Murphy's Law seems to be at work.I think if I want to eat some fish,I better go to Long John's or Captain D's.

Well I managed to get the boat in off the water and on the trailer.I had been putting it off as long as I could, hoping to do some more fishing but the wind has just been blowing too hard here to do any fishing and I was afraid they would drop the lake down more, leaving my boat stranded in the cove.I guess if I fish again between now and Spring it will be from the bank or a dock.

Well, just fish if you can and dream about it if you can't. Hope the rest of the year goes better for you. I'm toying with the idea of a early spring trip. Maybe Feb or Mar. Any fish biting that time of year? I fished once in Mar (toward the 3rd week) with no luck. Really liked the weather tho. I want to get back there before the leaves come out and the bugs get hungry!
