...You know, after the first 30 or so these things get kinda OLD! I'll take your word for it,I can't talk about the first 30 until after next year.. You probably didn't miss any great fishing, with all the people skiing and joyriding the lake this weekend the fishing was poor here.We spent 3 days and 2 nights on my boat, ran it from Sunrise Beach to just short of Warsaw and back and only caught 3 catfish. We caught a boatload of "baitfish" though. We put about 140 miles on the boat and at a little over 1 mile to the gallon on fuel, the price of Marina gas,Lakeside resteraunts for the weekend,I think it would have been cheaper to go to Florida sharkfishing.

Wish we could of got together and done something like that earlier this summer. I can't seem to get away from the d@mn house. To many errands and honeydo's and when i do get a lil free time it seems to RAIN . Wont be long hunting season will be opening up and ive got to start getting some more wood up for mom. Wish i could of got a bunch cut this spring like i intended to to sell. Course wood prices may well be in the dumps this winter. Been nice to of laid some catfish into the freezer to. Things GOT to slow down for me soon. Between mom, the hypocondriac father in law and the garden ive been run as bad as when dad was still here.
I was sitting there yesterday wondering what was going to go wrong this year. Seems like the last 4 or 5 years something bad has happened right on or close to my birthday. Dad going in the hospital, 9/11, ect. Got woke up this morning to a d@mn tornado warning of all things this time of year out of a lil bitty storm. Then just as the warning run out on the one just to our south they called for rotation right on top of us. Interesting morning, typical birthday i guess...lol

Whiskers. Are you saying that your pontoon boat with a 40 hp engine only gets 1 mpg? If so, you gota get that thing worked on. I get much better on my bass buggy. I use 4-5 gph and run 14-17 MPH

I use 4-5 gph and run 14-17 MPH Yea it needs something but I can't figure out what.It runs great but tops out at about 11-12 mph.My brother-in-law,who had the boat before me had it worked on several times. They changed out several props and moved the motor up and down a little and said nothing helped.I still think it needs a different prop but I wouldn't know what it needs. It is a Mercury "Classic 50" 45 hp and I can get about 2mpg at 2000 rpm and barely over 1mpg around 4000rpm.It runs smooth, starts good, idles good so it doesn't seem to be the engine itself.

Whiskers, what is the design operating rpm for that motor? On my 40 merc it is 5000-5500. What is your top rpm? I'm thinking maybe if 4000 is all she'll turn maybe your overproped. I think my 53 year old brain remembers that I'm running a 11 pitch prop. I turn in the low 5000 range. I usually run it around 4200 rpm. That seems to be the best for fuel economy/speed compromise. Trimming makes about 200 rpm difference. Not much really. Really stupid question now, you don't have some water in the pontoons do you? And for the joke question around here when someone is having performance problems, are you takin off the trailer when you put er in tha lake? LOL Have a good week!
