Anyone use them?I was thinking of adding a Penn 209m to my arsenal this year.I know a bunch of people swear by them, suppose to be pretty tough.I've never been real big on baitcasters but I'm still trying to get the hang of them. I know a guy who buys Penn reels and refurbishes them and does a real nice job at it according to some other people I know that have bought from him. They say they would rather have one of his than a new one.Besides the new ones haven't been made in the U.S.A. for a couple years so I would rather have a rebuilt American made.He gets $25 +$8 shipping so it sounds like a good deal to me,you can't buy a cheap baitcaster for that at the store. He is a sponsor on another site I visit and no it's not the C.O.B.(catchers of bait) or whatever that "other place" was.lol! I was just wondering who had used them and how they liked them.

I like 209's. And 25 bucks is prolly a good price fer one. I dont have one now. Tho Sinker does. Someone musta thawt they liked mine better'n me. I aint seen it fer several years now.
I been usin Tidewater's and they seem to be handling everything I catch with em. Got me anuther'n this year. Wally world had em for 15 bucks off. Makin it 21 plus tax. I'd gladly pay 25 fer a 209 tho.
I run 80# braided line to a three way swivel then Mono. I gotta Shakespear 2000 I realy like, Cept the bait clicker aint worth a crap. Really smooth casting and cranking. And adjustments for everything. (internal centrifical weights) I run spyderwire on it. Just wish the clicker worked differently. Only way I can see to use it, is to set it an loosen the drag a way bunch.
I reccommend gettin a 209 tho.
Anybody else havin probs gettin online today? I tried several times tonight and finally got on at 28k. Most times it logs on at 12-14k. Silverdragon from HH said his DSL was lots slower today, too.

I've been having problems getting on at the right speed also today. It was connecting at about 11-14k,I would disconnect and reconnect several times before I could get a better connection.I'm only connected at 21k at the moment,I even switched my ISP and that wasn't the problem,I have 2 ISPs at the moment and neither seems to be right.
I have been looking at the Tidewaters thinking about getting one but I think I will prolly get the Penn instead. He also has some 309s and a bunch of others but I haven't priced the others. He seems to have a pretty good selection on hand most of the time.

I got 2 of those 209s, an I rilly like'em. I got a new one that th store had on hand fer bout 3 years. Big cattin on r&r is only just now catchin on here. Anyway that'n is made in USA. I also bought a used one at another tackle shop. It seems to have been used a lot, but works fine. I used ta snag fer spoonies with a 49, an that's when I got hooked on'em. I like them reels donkey's got, but even if I was ta git one of'em I doubt I'd trade in my Penns. Snaggin in strong current constantly, an pullin in a lot of big fish is a perty good test fer a reel, and most penn 49s that I know of have retired at least 1 snagger an some of 'em have retired 2 or 3!

I will prolly try one of the 209s,they seem to be the favorite of most people I talk to.I need to dig through my extra poles and see what I have also.I noticed about 6 inches got broke of the end of the one I had my Abu mounted on.I usually buy a few each year at yard sales and stick back for just such occasions.

Peens if their not over rated are over priced. The old ones were good reels but the newer ones far as im concerned are'nt any better then a tidewater. Ive got all tidewater 30LA's myself, medium action saltwater reels. They will handle anything in freshwater. One med action saltwater tidewater spinning reel and a 50LA tidewater for snagging spoonies. Had a penn 309 for snagging but the derag would'nt tighten down enough to keep the spool from turning useing just a 10oz sinker. I traded it in for the 50LA. The 30LAs will cast a country mile once you get em set to your weight. Get two 30LAs for the price of one penn 209.
25 is'nt a bad price for refurbished if they know what their doing. Im assumeing your talking about whats his name over on katmasters? Part of penns popularity is advertiseing and they have been around a long time. For a big reel for a long time you had to get a penn cause there was'nt hardly anything else.

That's bout right. Penn 49 or Ocean City 'something' were all I ever saw when I was snaggin!
