Was reading a pour souls post on a hunting site about them accidentaly unpluging a freezer and loseing everything in it. Deer, turkey, fish ect. Stunk so bad they just pitched the freezer as it was an old one anyway.
This reminded me of an incident about 3 years back. We use an old frig for tempoary storage of deer during deer season until we have time to finsh them up. We quarter them up and wrap in freezer paper untill i can debone and cut them up.
Anyway, i was led to believe we had deboned, cut up and wrapped ALL the deer that was left in the frig. After 5 deer i was ready to believe it.
A few weeks later i remembered to unplug it(or else the ex did, can't remember).
As time went by and temps started to go up as spring came near a malodorus vapor started to permeate the old smokehouse.
Looked for a dead rat or possum at first. No Joy.
As time went by the odor became quite noisesome and the hunt continued. Finaly i figure there must be some old blood or something decomposeing in the fridg and move all the junk the girls have stacked up in front of it.
As i opened the door i knew immediately something was BAD wrong! A Vapous stench arose from the open door and smacked me in the face like a skunk drenched towel. Yuck!
Upon further tentative investigation it was discovered my meat carrier had left the whole neck from a doe as well as one side of ribs in the frig. They had decomposed quite nicely in the enclosed enviroment trapping MOST of the stench inside for my arrival.
To say the least i was a bit upset(for loseing the neck roasts and ribs as well as for being the one to discover said mess).
After scrapeing the mess into buckets and hoseing it out i got to scrub it down with a mixture of water and clorox. Numerous times!
Finaly after about the fifth douseing it was palatable again.
Note to self: Don't take the Ex's word she got all the meet out of the frig no matter how tired you are of cutting up deer!
Anyone else have any Aromatic stories...lol
