I'm gonna go out to the farm today and plant my sunflowers for the fair. I'm going for the biggest flower head. Does anybody have any tips for planting these, how to make them bigger? Any info would be great. Thanks.

Ive got about 30 tomatoe plants out, 10 watermellon, 6 yellow squash, couple small rows each of potatoes and green beans. Need to get some more beans out, okra and maybe a lil corn.

Sounds like a nice little garden. We also planted strawberrys, beans, flowers, and a littler sweet corn.

Talked to a guy last year, said he put his tomatas 3' apart and planted them tall okra between. Said it seemed they did better. Yrs ago during real hot-dry spell I threw some ol' white bed sheets over my tomato cage. Kept them from burnin clear up. I didn let the sheets get closer to the ground than bout a foot. That way they didn "scald" when I watered'em.

Good idea. My grandma uses hair to keep out the rabbits. You just go to your barber and ask for hair, and he will give ya some, maybe. And just put some hair where ever your crops are at at the base of them. It always works in grandma's garden.

Forgot the strawberry bed...lol
Ive heard people talk about useing human hair but never seen it work for them. The smell is supposed to keep them out. But you got to think a minute. Your in that garden everyday and leaveing your stink all over them plants and the garden. If your smell was going to keep the lil varmits out you would'nt need the hair. Their in there so much anyway they get used to it.
Now if you want to mess up someones deer stand or keep deer out of flowers ect it works to a degree. Just depends on how used to human stink they are...lol
Best thing is a watch dog, black pepper, tabasco sauce, and/or a pellet rifle...lol

Im always lazy when it comes to gardening. I always had to plow, till, plant, hoe and harvest the d@mn things as a kid. And we did'nt have just one small garden either. One by the house was 20 yards wide and 50 yards long. One behind the barn was 30 yards wide and 60-70 yards long. One down by the pond was 15 yards wide and 40 yards long. And i did'nt even like most of the vegatbles in the things!
Now days the old lady wants a garden ill help her put a reasonable one in then the things hers to deal with. Ill pick a bit and water if i feel energetic but other then that it's basicly hers...lol Id rather hunt and fight ticks as weed...lol

boys if i hab a garden id have to haul it in there aint much dirt in my part of the ozarks. its ok though im like wolfman . when i was a kid it was my job to tend the garden inbetween running to the fridge to get my old man another beer . if i was going to have a garden i would need a retaining wall and 6or 8 dumptruck loads of top soil.
