Worms work real good here when the river is goin outa the banks. If ya can find a ditch or creek, set just inside the mouth close ta the bottom. Just before dark I like ta raise the line up close ta the top. Seems like after dark the cats tend ta nose around up there more. An old slough with a little hi-water current will get ya more buffalo and carp than ya can get in th boat. Good for blues and channels til the instant the water begins ta drop.

3 CSR 10-6.605 Live Bait
"(A)Live bait may be taken by a minnow trap with throat opening not to exceed one and one-half inches (1 1/2") in any dimension, dip net, throw net, pole and line, or a seine not more than twenty feet (20') long and four feet (4') deep, of a mesh not more than one-half inch (1/2") bar measure."
"(4)Length Limits: All bluegill, green sunfish and bullheads more than five inches (5") in total length and other fish more than twelve inches (12") in total length must be returned to the water immediately after being caught by the methods prescribed in this rule."(3 CSR 10-6.605 Live Bait)
Bluegill taken by any method mentioned in the rule above(includeing pole and line or by hand) are included guys. 5 inchs is the maximum length for 'ANY' bluegill, green sunfish or bullhead used as bait. Carp, suckers chubs ect can be 12 inchs in length.
I like bluegills but cats seem to prefer then lil redears real well.

That rule chage has hung a lot of fellas up. The new jug line rules as well. Now if they could just get the point across to folks about lableing their lines with their info it might keep a lot of old lines out of the water. Problem is most folks just go on like the rules never change never checking the new rule books and phamplets. Hunting or fishing i see it all the time. Buy the new license and never pick up the new regs. Then tell the agent "i did'nt know" trying to get out of a ticket...lol

Dadgum code book. As whiskers sez, it reads like a lawyers hymnal! Only thing it ain't got in it is Thou shalts and Thou shalt nots! When I worked as a carpenter for MDC a few years ago I liked getting the agents in conversation. They don't always see things the same among themselves. Of course then ya gotta throw in a lawyer or two and a judge in a court case. Seems ta me common sense is just about the last consideration, IF it's considered at all.

The regs n rules basicly are what 'HAS' to be followed. Conservation agents have the most discretion of any law enforcement officer. They give a lot of warnings where other agencies just flat write tickets. In other words if they feel it's an honest mistake like one crappie over the limit, one to many hooks on a trotline ect they can give you a warning. The real problem is some of the New agents that are really Gung Ho or the older ones with a bad attitude. They can get kind of obnoxious. Most are pretty level headed and decent.
Where you run into some problems is some of the agents interpetations of the laws. Some will try to excede the stated laws or just don't understand them themselves. Then you got to go all the way to Jeff City and the head of the protections division to straighten things out. Like was mentioned the regs are written in lawyerese and can be mis-interpeted especialy if they don't deal with certain situations on a regular basis.
Haveing been a Rep and a Hunter Safety Specialist(Volunteer) for the last 12 years or so i've got to deal with the MDC and agents on a regular basis...lol

We was talkin about limbing in that other thread, a 6 or 8" carp onna limb right where the water is breakin over th bank is mighty hard ta beat! Tie him off so's his back is almost outa th water. When the river was still here an on th rise them little carps would become 'experienced' quick!
